The S.O.P.A. is an international group of private citizens with a common
interest. We have joined together in a loose and informal association for fun
and mutual benefit.
Our goals are motivated  by a love of flying, an interest in
history, a deep appreciation for the unique planes we fly, a sense of duty as
temporary stewards of our planes historical, a need to assist and educate
others, and an abiding respect for those who have gone before us, especially
veterans who gave their lives in the name of freedom.

Our mission is to share information, restore and preserve aircraft, and raise
public awareness about these unsung heroes of WWII and the Korean conflict.
As a
"type club" we provide technical information, advice and support to
owners, restorers, pilots and enthusiasts of the
Stinson L-5 "Sentinel", also
affectionally called the
"Flying Jeep" and sometimes known as the Army
O-62, Navy and Marine Corps OY-1 and OY-2, the British Sentinel I and
Sentinel II, and the Air Force U-19.

All interested individuals are invited to participate.
If you have any
questions about the L-5 or you would like to share your own knowledge,
experience or photos of these rugged old warbirds, please contact us
HERE. If
you would like to become a member of our organization, go
HERE, print the
form, fill it out and mail it in with a check made out to the SOPA. For those who
do not want a paid subscription that includes our excellent 20 page
newsletter, you may still participate in our free "Yahoo Groups" online
discussion forum.

If you are thinking of purchasing an L-5 then you may wish read the
"IS L-5
OWNERSHIP FOR ME"
page. It may help answer some of your basic
questions. You may find the
L-5 Q&A general information page or the Data &
Specs
sectionelpful as well. Be sure to stop back often to check the popular
CLASSIFIEDS
section for new listings if you are in the market for parts,
projects, flyable airplanes or memorabila.

I addition to our basic
L-5 History page, we also provide a fee-based
historical research service
for those interested in learning the history of a
particular airplane or military unit that operated these venerable planes. The
L-5 is a
true "warbird" that saw worldwide employment. It was manufactured
for the USAAF by the
Stinson Division of the Consolidated-Vultee Aircraft
Corporation
from December 1942 through the end of 1945. Over 3,600 were
manufactured and there are currently about 140 examples  flying in the world
today with more being restored every year.

We hope you enjoy your visit! Be sure to
